Everything is perfect! Solar-B and its vehicle M-V-7 rocket have been successfully launced from Uchinoura Space Center (USC/JAXA). The spacecraft was put in the planned orbit. It has been named Hinode, which means sunrise in Japanese. All status of the spacecraft including solar panel power, atitude, temperatures of instruments, and ultra fine Sun sensor (UFSS) are nominal.

Space Shuttle Atlantis glided to a landing this morning at Kennedy Space Center, Fla., concluding a successful mission to resume construction of the International Space Station. Atlantis and the six-member STS-115 crew spent nearly 12 days in space.

New rings found in the orbit of Saturns moons Janus and Epimetheus. The Janus/Epimetheus Ring: A new diffuse ring, coincident with the orbits of Saturn's moon's Janus and Epimetheus, has been revealed in ultra-high phase angle views from Cassini. Ultra-high phase angle indicates the sun is behind the target.

This picture of unidentified possible small debris was recorded with a digital still camera by astronaut Daniel Burbank onboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis around 11 a.m. (CDT) today. Engineers do not believe this to be the same object seen in video taken by shuttle TV cameras earlier in the day.

The STS-115 crew completed scheduled inspections of Space Shuttle Atlantis’ heat shield this morning. The astronauts used cameras on the shuttle’s robotic arm to conduct the scans.
